Hassan Karimi, PhD

  • Professor

Hassan Karimi is a Professor and the Director of the Geoinformatics Laboratory in the School of Computing and Information at the University of Pittsburgh. Hassan’s research is focused on designing and developing new models, algorithms, and analytics in geoinformatics, especially for wayfinding and navigation and assistive technology.

Hassan received the BS degree in Computer Science from the University of New Brunswick, Canada, the MS degree in Computer Science from the University of Calgary, Canada, and the PhD degree in Geomatics Engineering from the University of Calgary, Canada.

Hassan’s research seeks to exploit the rich interdependence between the theory and practice by designing and developing new methodologies, mathematical models, algorithms, geospatial databases, and applications and services for wayfinding and navigation of people with disabilities. Hassan will contribute to the research and development of advanced computational techniques and assistive technology in the Pittsburgh Low Vision Research Collaborative.
