Patricia Karg, MS

Patricia Karg is an Associate Professor in the Department of Rehabilitation Science and Technology at the University of Pittsburgh. She is an engineer and rehabilitation scientist with broad experience managing and performing clinical and laboratory research on the effectiveness of emerging technologies and assistive products. She is actively involved in the development of performance and safety standards for assistive technology, including wheeled mobility, seating and transportation safety.  

Karg received a B.S. degree in Mechanical Engineering and B.A. degree in Applied Science from Lehigh University, and a M.S. degree in Biomedical Engineering from the University of Virginia. She is Chair of the RESNA Assistive Technology Standards Board, the national standards body for assistive technology. She has worked with the VA National Center for Patient Safety to develop clinical limits of use guidelines for assistive devices. 

Karg collaborates with other members of the Pittsburgh Low Vision Research Collaborative team to improve driving options and develop performance standards for assistive products to improve the safety and performance of technology for those with vision loss.
